Sheri Mathis, Founder of Shop, Eat, Drink PINK! is a longtime Oak Cliff resident…and a two-time breast cancer survivor (although she much prefers to be called a conqueror). Both of her sisters have fought and conquered breast cancer as well. In the year since her second diagnosis, she has doubled (pun intended) her efforts to raise awareness and funds for the early detection of breast cancer. Sheri and her sisters call themselves the Mammogram Poster Girls. Because all three sisters were diagnosed via mammogram (early), and each has had a good outcome (i.e., each is still stubbornly, happily, kicking), Sheri has made it her mission to raise funds for the early detection of breast cancer, and mammograms for those unable to afford them.
Sheri has produced “Pink” fundraisers, along with an army of volunteers and generous donors. These fundraisers (Shop, Eat, Drink, PINK! and Volley 4A Cure) have raised more than $75,000 to date—and all proceeds have funded early detection initiatives, and mammograms for those unable to afford them in Methodist Health System (MHS). Proceeds from these events have helped hundreds of women (and men) in the southern sector of Dallas gain access to early detection.
